Robocalls, those marketing junk calls you get on your phone, are getting worse. The Federal Trade Commission receives 250,000 to 300,000 complaints about unwanted calls each month. Putting your name on the government’s Do Not Call list at DoNotCall.gov is one step, but Consumer Reports says it’s not very effective.

The Federal Trade Commission has a Do Not Call List, which makes it easier for you to stop getting telemarketing calls you do not want. You can register online at donotcall.gov or by phone at 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number you wish to register. Registration is free.

After receiving some telemarketing calls to my home phone, I went on DoNotCall.gov and registered both my home and cell phone numbers. Within a few weeks, I started receiving more telemarketing calls, to both phones. When I attempted to call these numbers back, they were all disconnected.
