North Adams police are warning people about a phone scam. Police say a woman received a call claiming to be from Citizen Bank and stated that her monthly $99 Sears credit card statement was overdue and they wanted to assist her with setting up the payment.

Alaska State Troopers have been investigating a phone scam where individuals are claiming to be troopers themselves. Multiple reports started coming into the troopers on April 8. The scam was initially recognized in the Interior but has since been upgraded to a statewide advisory.

The potential victims are told they missed jury duty and need to purchase pre-paid cards to avoid arrest.

On March 27, a woman told police she was contacted by a man who claimed to be her grandson and asked for money in order to return from a trip he had taken. The woman does not have grandchildren, police said, and when she informed the caller she was going to call police, he allegedly threatened her.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Police Department is reminding the public about a phone scam targeting taxpayers during this tax season. Residents may get a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and threatening police arrest, deportation or license revocation if the resident doesn't pay immediately. But IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel says this is a clear indication it's not the IRS calling.

The callers are impersonating the IRS, with the number identified on caller ID matching the Virginia State Police (VSP) office in Chatham. Three callers told police they had received these calls on Wednesday, alone.
